Fundació Bit organises a day of best practices on the occasion of the committee meeting of the European project CESAM in Majorca.

The institutional partners and partner companies of the project on Circular Economy and Sustainability in agri-food in the Mediterranean, CESAM, have participated in the conference organised on 23rd and 24th of May by Fundació Bit in Mallorca.

With its participation in this project, Fundació Bit reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovation, sustainability and support for companies in the agri-food sector on our islands.

Fundació Bit, within the framework of CESAM, organised a seminar on best practices in circular economy and sustainability at ParcBit on 24 May. First of all, the manager of Fundació Bit, Sebastián González, welcomed the speakers and the institutional partners of the European project: Euroregió, ACCIÓ, Fundació Bit, AD’OCC and ASOI, who presented the services they offer to companies in their regions in terms of innovation and sustainability.

The day continued with presentations by experts in sustainability from the Balearic Islands: Neus Andreu, head of the Department of Waste and Circular Economy, and Maria Francisca Capote Cifre, head of negotiation of the same department, which is part of the Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy; Aina M. Ripoll, director of the Economic Intelligence Unit of Impulsa Balears; and Marta Pons, director of the Cluster of Ecological Transition of the Balearic Islands (Cluster TEIB).

This presentation of good institutional practices in the Balearic Islands ended with the intervention of the Innobal Office, part of the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Innovation, with the intervention of the head of the Innovation service, Omar Beidas, who also presented the Regional Innovation Strategy for smart specialisation (RIS3 2021-2027).

On the morning of 23rd May, a visit was made to the company Terracor, dedicated to the cultivation of fruit and vegetables in Manacor, to see the pilot test that the French startup Asclepios Tech has set up within the framework of the project. This photo-biological treatment solution based on light signals reduces water consumption and pathogens, with the aim of improving agricultural sustainability and food safety. CESAM project members also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of Terracor, a Mallorcan company committed to sustainable production and consumption.

After the visit to Terracor, the committee meeting of CESAM members, the main driving force behind the organisation of these two days of events, was held to continue working on the main objectives of this project, 70% funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Euroregion Pyrenees-Mediterranean Pyrenees. One of the most important aspects of this meeting was to discuss the cascade funding system with a budget of 900,000 €. This funding is expected to be in place by the beginning of 2025, providing 100% support to around twenty SMEs from the three participating regions: Occitània, Catalunya and Illes Balears. Each agri-food SME will receive a maximum of €60,000.
