GoZeroWaste, a partner SME of the European CESAM project, has presented Paasiot, an innovative IoT-based technological solution designed to facilitate the collection and return of reusable items, during its participation at the Alimentaria Barcelona trade fair, one of the leading international events in the agri-food sector.
The presentation took place in a strategic setting that showcased how technology and sustainability are transforming the retail and HoReCa sectors, positioning GoZeroWaste as a benchmark in the transition towards more circular and efficient models.
Paasiot is a smart collector of reusable items — such as containers, cups, bags, boc’n’rolls, and pizza boxes — that simplifies the return process for users, making it easier, more autonomous, and inclusive.
The system incorporates advanced features such as voice recognition, designed to facilitate use for people with visual impairments, as well as an accessible design for wheelchair users, ensuring a universally usable experience.
With the aim of increasing citizen participation, Paasiot integrates a gamification system that rewards users for each returned item. Through this system, users can accumulate points that are converted monthly into discounts and prizes for the most active participants.
The solution also incorporates blockchain technology, enabling the traceability of reusable items and providing transparency regarding the environmental impact generated, thereby strengthening trust among users and stakeholders.
The initiative is part of the European CESAM project, a key european project for boosting the resilience and digitalisation of agri-food value chains in Europe, promoting innovative solutions aligned with sustainability goals.
During the fair, CESAM organised a networking lunch and pitch session, a meeting space that brought together companies, startups, and ecosystem stakeholders to share projects, generate synergies, and foster collaboration within the sector.
Pilot deployments in Barcelona
The first two Paasiot collectors are already operational and can be visited until the end of June at Foodcoop BCN and Bodega La Peninsular, in collaboration with the Fundación Restaurantes y Bares Sostenibles.
