Duo Lozère is an artisanal cheese dairy established in 2007 by farmers in Lozère. The company produces yogurts, cheeses, fromage blanc, and faisselles from cow’s and sheep’s milk. SARL SIBIO, established in 2012, is located in Thuir in the Occitanie region. The company produces a range of organic fruit juices, nectars, compotes, jams, soups, and purees using fruits and vegetables grown on its own farms. Its products are crafted artisanally, highlighting local organic produce from the Pyrénées-Orientales area, a terroir situated between sea and mountains. The company is committed to promoting high-quality, locally sourced organic products while supporting sustainable agriculture in the region.

The Fundació Privada Drissa, founded in 1999, is an organization focused on improving the quality of life for people with mental health disorders through employment. The company owns an organic farm, a workshop, and two stores dedicated to producing and selling healthy products with a social and environmental commitment. It aims to offer organic, locally sourced products while promoting the employment inclusion of people with mental health challenges. Its activities also include housing, mental health awareness, and health sciences research.

The company behind the restaurant is Vermes Restauración S.L, with over 20 years of experience in catering, it operates restaurants guided by principles of sustainability, circular economy, and zero waste. These establishments prioritize environmentally responsible practices as core operational standards.

Foodcoop BCN is a cooperative supermarket located in the city center and collectively owned by 700 members. Each member contributes two hours of work every four weeks to support the supermarket’s operations, ensuring access to healthy and affordable food. The cooperative prioritizes organic, local, seasonal, and fair trade products, and implements practices to minimize environmental impact, such as reducing food waste and packaging. Community activities are organised to promote learning and exchange on food systems, and partnerships are established with like-minded organizations to strengthen cooperative networks.

Les Serres de Bessières (FIBAQ SAS), founded in 2015, operates under the Ô Toulouse brand and specialises in sustainable market gardening. The company produces 6,000 tonnes of pesticide-free tomatoes each year across 10 hectares of greenhouses, employing 80 professionals committed to responsible agriculture. A leader in the circular economy, Les Serres de Bessières partners with ECONOTRE, a local waste treatment facility, to recover residual heat from waste combustion, reducing annual CO₂ emissions by 6,000 tonnes. Natural solutions, such as bumblebee hives, are used to promote biodiversity and eliminate the need for pesticides. The company is dedicated to providing fresh, high-quality, and environmentally friendly produce, supporting local agriculture and reducing reliance on imports.

The Institut Français de la Vigne et du Vin (IFV) is a research and engineering organisation dedicated to advancing the wine industry through the development of technical references. IFV conducts experimental activities to support ecological transition across plant breeding, viticulture, winemaking, and product marketing, ensuring the transfer and dissemination of research outcomes. Key priorities include promoting ecological transition, reducing herbicide use, supporting best practices, developing biocontrol solutions, producing certified plants, protecting vineyards from decline, and fostering adaptation to climate change.

B’ZEOS is a green-tech SME specialising in the development of sustainable, seaweed-based packaging materials as alternatives to conventional plastics. The company produces seaweed thermoplastic pellets, which can be processed into packaging using standard manufacturing technologies, enabling straightforward integration into existing production lines. These materials are fully biodegradable and suitable for home composting.

Sensing & Control (S&C), founded in 2006 and based in Barcelona, is a technology SME specialising in Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence solutions. The company develops cloud-based products and services through its nAssist platform, supporting data storage, processing, and advanced analytics for sectors such as agriculture, energy, mobility, logistics, Industry 4.0, and healthcare. S&C works with sector partners via a B2B2C model, providing data services and technological integration. The company is involved in national and European research projects, enhancing the interoperability and scalability of IoT technologies. In agriculture, S&C focuses on sensor data analysis, digital twins, and predictive algorithms to optimise crop production and resource use.

Open Innovation Projects

The CIRCA: CIRculAr Aquaponics project (Advancing Circular Agriculture through Hydroponic Wastewater and Microalgae Cultivation) combines hydroponic farming wastewater with microalgae cultivation to create a sustainable, circular farming model. It addresses the challenge of nutrient-rich, saline wastewater from hydroponics, which is difficult to recycle and can harm the environment. Microalgae, such as Chlorella, can thrive in this wastewater, providing an eco-friendly solution while producing valuable proteins and biostimulants. The project uses advanced technologies for efficient microalgae cultivation and cost-effective biomass harvesting. CIRCA aims to reduce environmental impact and promote scalable, resource-efficient farming in regions like Catalonia and beyond.

FoodSensing4CE (Smart Sensing Packaging for Sustainable Food Supply Chain) scales up smart packaging for real-time, non-invasive food quality monitoring, reducing waste and boosting supply chain efficiency. It integrates ColorSensing’s AI-based colour analysis into industrial inspection machines for continuous food safety checks. The project aims to demonstrate a fully operational system on packaging lines, improving transparency and compliance. Key impacts include reduced food waste, higher profits, and greater sustainability in the agrifood sector. KPIs target >95% inspection efficacy, 15-20% waste reduction, and adoption by at least three industry partners.

DRIVE – Disruptive Research and Innovation for Viticulture Efficiency (Sustainable & Efficient Viticulture: Reducing Inputs and Waste with a User-Friendly Variable Rate Application Technology) will install and validate Talptech’s advanced kit on a Bodega Ribas tractor in Mallorca to optimize pesticide and fertilizer use in viticulture.
Using stereoscopic cameras and edge-computing, the kit enables real-time, data-driven spray adjustments based on crop vigor and load. Aimed at reducing agrochemical use by up to 40%, it also provides detailed operational data and quantifies sustainability benefits. The 8-month project includes system installation, full-season trials, and comprehensive impact analysis. By project end, Talptech’s kit will be validated at TRL 8, demonstrating significant waste reduction and operational efficiency for precision viticulture.

TVI and Flutilliant combine expertise in agronomy and data analytics to develop and validate this frugal, focused solution. The Reycorks by Verréo project (Industrialization of Reycoks, the first industrial AI-based equipment and software that sorts wine stoppers by their recycling nature and captures data present on their surface to establish cork traceability) aims to reduce carbon emissions by improving the sorting and recycling of wine stoppers, which are often discarded due to their mixed materials and small size. Reycorks technology sorts stoppers into four categories—100% cork, 100% plastic, agglomerated corks, and others—making recycling more efficient and valuable. The system captures producer and supplier data, helping wine producers lower packaging taxes and prove sustainability efforts. Recycled corks become raw materials for European manufacturers, supporting eco-design and addressing regional cork shortages. Reycorks offers a scalable solution for France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, turning waste into a resource and supporting climate goals.

AGORA (New biobAsed, biodeGradable and PFAs free water and Oil Repellent pAper packaging solution)’s main and only partner, ONYRIQ, has developed a biodegradable, polysaccharide-based coating for paper food packaging that matches the water- and grease-resistance of PFAs-based coatings without environmental or health risks. The innovative coating combines renewable polysaccharide complexes with a small amount of non-persistent acrylic polymer, forming a unique micro-nanostructure for superior barrier properties. The project aims to create and validate high-performance, compostable paper prototypes for fast-food wrapping, meeting strict barrier and biodegradability standards. Prototypes will be rigorously tested for industry compliance and end-of-life sustainability, including compostability and recyclability. Knowledge transfer and industry engagement will ensure broad adoption, advancing safer, eco-friendly food packaging solutions.

NITRO-TIC (Smart IoT and ICT-Based Automated Measurement System for Monitoring and Optimizing Ammonia Nitrogen Recovery in Wastewater and Industrial Processes, Enhancing Technology Commercialization Opportunities) is enhancing FLOC Ammonia Solutions’ patented nitrogen recovery system for livestock manure by integrating automated IoT and ICT technologies into its pilot plant. The project, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and CEP Lleida, aims to enable real-time monitoring and remote control of ammonia recovery using a web and mobile platform. Automated data collection will improve process efficiency, scalability, and predictive maintenance, advancing the system from TRL 7 to TRL 8. An IP study will assess patent protection for the integrated automation, supporting commercialization. The project’s outcome will be a market-ready, efficient, and scalable solution for sustainable nitrogen recovery in agriculture.

Ferti-ByPro BIO (Innovation of a totally renewable organic fertilizer production using recycling local water-rich plant by-product resource from aqueous extraction and development of metabolomic analytical method to follow its efficacy and environmental behaviour) project transforms moist by-products from biostimulant extraction into a circular, market-ready organic fertilizer. Groupe Ethicae combines these wet by-products with locally sourced dry organic materials, optimizing nutrient balance for effective pellet production. SSOIL (Valorisation of agri-food residues as functionalised compost-like material) project develops compact solid-state fermentation (SSF) technology to transform agri-food and pruning wastes into compost-like, nutrient-rich biostimulants directly on-site. By mixing unprocessed and nutrient-enriched wood as bulking agents, SSOIL produces tailored organic fertilizers containing macronutrients, organic carbon, and biostimulants like IAA. EcoAljibe (Study to evaluate the effectiveness of modifying the cleaning and disinfection protocol for water storage tanks intended for consumption and improve sanitary protocols in the context of a water crisis, contributing to the achievement of the SDGs) addresses Spain’s water crisis by optimizing cistern cleaning protocols to eliminate unnecessary water draining, using stored water for cleaning and disinfection. The new method, compliant with national regulations, significantly reduces water consumption and operational costs while maintaining water quality.
